ARLIS MOQ is the Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec chapter of the Art Libraries Association of North America and was founded in 1987 as the first Canadian chapter. The chapter’s goals are to promote the ideals and ideas of ARLIS/NA in the local and regional context.
Our membership is composed of librarians, archivists, students and curators who work in art libraries, special collections and visual resources.
TERRITORIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We would like to acknowledge that ARLIS/NA MOQ, its members and many of the organizations where we work in Tiohtià:ke / Montreal, Odàwàng / Ottawa, and Quebec City are located on the unceded territories of several First Nations. These nations include the Kanien’kehá:ka, the Omamìwìnini (Algonquin Anishinàbeg), the Innu, and the Wendat (Huron-Wendat). As well, we recognize that some of our members live and work outside of these areas, though still on traditional Indigenous territories across Turtle Island (North America), the Inuit Nunangat, and Métis Homeland.
As art information specialists, we should always be cognizant of how our profession and our organizations contribute to colonial practices that have, and continue to, negatively impact Indigenous communities here and elsewhere. We will strive to decolonize our profession and institutions, and to effect positive change through meaningful Indigenous inclusion for the benefit of all.
